Astrolabes were cherished during the middle ages, an astrological/astronomical slide rule, clock, calendar, star map on one side; a sextant, measuring device on the other side - all on one instrument; much more than a planesphere. Chauser even wrote a piece on the astrolabe. I now have all the formulas needed to create astrolabes like the one pictured above (this one is Venice California specific.) I've been working on these for years - I always wanted one, but most surviving astrolabes are antiques in a museum or they cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars. I finally got it all together and made my own.

I am going to make them individually on a custom order basis. They are personalized for you with overlays that are specific to: your local latitude(get others for various citys and latitudes you visit,) birthday, Zodiak Sun Signs, constellations, planetary movements, Sun - and any other "furniture" you may dream-up or desire.

This is the perfect tool for hands-on learning of the celestial sphere - plot sunrise/transit/sunset, moonrise/transit/moonset - bright star transits, planets, retrograde motions, comets and anything else in the sky. Included is a CD with example applications, explanations and Chauser's Treatise on Astrolabes. The perfect melding of astrology and astronomy.

Individually ordered - Each one is a work of functional art made from extra heavy Italian cold-pressed watercolor card stock, laminated using 7 and 10 mill laminate; overlays are printed on 14 mill film - to ensure years of use. They are printed using vectors - so these instruments are acurate with sharp crisp details. Included is a CD with example applications, explanations and Chauser's Treatise on Astrolabes. The perfect melding of astrology and astronomy. For now I'm going to try and keep the cost to about 20.00 or 25.00 USD based on the amount of work, number of overlays, extra furniture etc - plus shipping. They make a perfect gift for any stargazer - astrologer, astronomer alike; Can be printed with a message, name or motto.
